Nimrods is a narrative feature film, with cameos by Green Day and featuring 22 of the band's songs. The film is named after Green Days' hugely successful 1997 album Nimrod. The film follows high school student Tommy (Mason Thames), who receives a phone call inviting his band to open for Green Day on New Year's Eve, not realising it’s an elaborate prank by his older brother, Wayne (Keen Ruffalo). Desperate to believe his life is about to change, Tommy steals Wayne's car and begins driving his band from Kansas City to Los Angeles, hell bent on getting there in three days. What follows is a rowdy and uproarious road trip across America, inspired by Green Day’s early days of touring in a van, years before the release of their breakout record Dookie. Directed by Lee Kirk, and featuring a stellar indie cast including McKenna Grace ( Scream 7, The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping) and Jenna Fisher ( The Office) , and of course the band Green Day, this is a coming-of-age comedy and a homage to one of the most famous and beloved rock bands in the world.
